RESUMO

The introduction of new products, equipments and work techniques to industrial processes, a consequence of the significant technological growth during the last decades, promotes a series of problems to people and to the environment. The statistics of accidents at work and big disasters, around the world, guides the companies to believe that competitiveness and profit are not enough to the survival of an organization in the market. This way, they must demonstrate ethic and responsible behavior for the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS). To reach these efficient management levels in OHS, the companies must develop and implement an Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems (OHSMS). This dissertation aims to propose an OHS management alternative to a national electric company, presenting relevant informations that can be used by any organization during the development and implementation of an OHSMS. The results of this dissertation are presented under the format of an OHSMS model to the company under study. The applied methodology can be used in many procedural steps, from the current situation analysis until the implementation of changes. The implementation of an OHSMS brings significant improvements to the occupational environment conditions of the companies, primarily when accompanied of a efficient change in the organizational culture, that comes from the organization continuous actions in the pursuit of an equilibrium between production and man management
