RESUMO

The current structure of Engineering Courses in Brazil, is going through transformations, focusing in satisfying current and future demands from Society, in a context of broad and dinamic scientific and technological development. Itâs necessary to develop a global professional formation that make possible to the future engineer, operate in a world scenary of frequent changes. New trends in Engineering teaching, both at international and national level, put in evidence the need of curricula change, considering issues like more flexibility and ability to follow the fast evolution of technological knowledge. The curricula characterization now a days, points to a shorter time schedule, research, continuous education and hands on activities. This study, explores a methodological proposal to study the present professional profile of Electric / Electrotechnical Engineering, at distribution sector in Pernambuco State, based on developed activities at their own work environment. The developed activities, serve as indicators to verify the level of knowledge, ability and attitudes required at the academic institution, concerned in interacting with society to know the actual knowledges, abilities and attitudes that match their demands. This study obtains useful information about the researched universe, providing contributions to a better academic study and continuing education for those professionals. Results indicate that, to get the most from these professionals it is necessary knowledge in the organizational and behavioral fields, learned in a more deep and objective way, relating theory and professional practice; managerial skills to coordinate resources, entrepeneurship, professional responsibilities and ability to perceive the necessity of self learning and continuous improvement. Besides these skills, it was also identified the need of a behavior focused in professional ethics, peopleâs interaction, iniciative and to be interacting with the objectives and strategic policies of the company. Also relevant, among suggestions developed to improve the current education system, are some aspects related to compatible formation considering regional specificities and globalization process
