RESUMO

This thesis is based OTT a demonstration of a migration project from Ethernet to Broadband Network by using ATM technology. The increase of installed equipments number, which has created local network, in conjunction to the rising of multimedia applications, became the migration imperative in order to allow a good performance for the existing traffic and the future needs. This network migration project has been conducted in the R&D Center of TELEBRÁS, because of technical and real traffic conditions present that allows an analysis and developments for future improvements. Initially, it has been made a preliminary study on the traffic demand related to the increased number of installed workstations and equally growth of multimedia applications. After this study, it was necessary to choose the best technology to provide the needs as well as flexibility for the future applications. ATM technology was the solution adopted together to Ethernet Swftch equipment: A TI ! is used for the backbone structure together to servers equipments and Ethemet Switch in order to take ali the advantage for the installed nodes in the R&D Center TELEBRÁS network
