RESUMO

The Eletronics Group of the Instituto de Pesquisas da Marinha-IPqM has been developing since 1971 a low-cost artificial satélite navigation receiver. This project, which has the economic support of thw Banco Nacional do Desenvolvimento Econômico-BNDE, introduces the utilization of a fixed program computer for the execution of arthmetic and control functions essential to the purpose of this equipment: maritime navigation. This computer, whose cofiguration is based on Intel Corporations¿s MCS-4 programmable microprocessor, is the subject of the present thesis. The project of the processor and its peripherals is described, together with the criteria which oriented the project decisions from which resulted its final configuration, taking into account the specific application mentioned above.
