RESUMO

We present in this work a study of the magnetization and vortex lattice behavior, when a superconducting ErBa2CU3O7-d single crystal with columnar defects is rotated under a fixed magnetic field. We describe the procedures used in the development of BaZrO3 crucibles, and in the growth of YBa2CU3O7-d and ErBa2CU3O7-d single crystals using this crucible and also commercial Zirconia ones. The developments were followed by X-Ray diffraction, SEM and Optical Microscopy analyses. Single crystals were characterized by dc magnetization and ac susceptibility measurements. The largest and best crystals obtained presented sizes of order 1x2mm2, superconducting transition around 90K and transition width less than 1K. The HC1(T) curve for the referred materials was obtained, for comparative purposes. We have introduced Columnar Defects in an ErBa2CU3O7-d ê single crystal, through irradiation by 26+Au ions with energy 309MeV, and the angular dependence of the irreversible magnetization of this crystal was measured by magnetic hysteresis loops at several angles. We have developed an alternate procedure for the study of the angular dependence of the magnetic response, based on sample rotation under a fixed magnetic field, which presents several improvements with respect to the traditional hysteresis loop method The procedure was modeled through equations which were experimentally verified, and the new method was discussed in terms of advantages, limitations and conditions under which it is equivalent to the hysteresis loops. The new method was applied to the study of irreversible magnetization and vortex lock-in effect on the ErBa2CU3O7-d single crystal with columnar defects. We have experimentally verified the theoretical prediction of a 1/H dependence of the lock-in angle, which implies a Bose-glass type behavior of the vortex lattice, with long range interaction between these and the columnar defects
