RESUMO

The significant quantity and variety of information that are conveyed in different means and the diversity of users who try to access them are nowadays considered a concern of the Information Technology area. It is worth remembering that the information, whether written, oral or audiovisual, is the basic element for the production and dissemination of knowledge. Within this context, photographs are emphasized as sources of information that generate knowledge as well as an important aid for rescuing the Institution?s history and memory. In this perspective this study intends to evidence, by means of bibliographical research, the existing parameters for the organization/representation of imagetic documents. The study also proposes, by uniting the Documentary Analysis procedures to the basic notions of the Text Linguistics, to adapt the methodology presented by Manini (2002) to the treatment of this textual typology generated and maintained in a health area institution, more specifically in the Hospital do Cancer de Londrina. In this sense, it is highlighted the concern with the recovery, in a more efficient and effective way, of the information contained in the photographs related to the institutions that are concerned with the service rendered to the population.
