RESUMO

Even though Brazilâs bovine heard is among the largest in the world its beef productivity remains very low compared with the main beef producers, such as the USA, Canada, among others. From the year 2003 Brazil became the main beef exporter in the world. Brazil is also one of the largest world pasture beef producer. With the increase of beef exportation arises the necessity for better beef quality and also for better animal performance. Feed supplementation can contribute for better animal performance. Among these supplements are the additives. In these work the treatments were constituted by the use of the oral probiotic (FLORAFORT) as the sole additive, and the association of FLORAFORT with the injected amino acid supplement (AMINOFORT), and the control treatment, the one with no supplement. It was used three genetic groups of animals each one with fifteen steers. The probiotic (FLORAFORT) is composed by Lactobacillus acidophilus, Enterococcus faecium, Bifidobacterium bifidum, actobacillus plantarum and Sacharomyces cerevisae and the injected amino acid is constituted of some minerals, amino acids, and vitamins. FLORAFORT and AMINOFORT are considered to be a growth promoter. In this experiment the objective was to evaluate the effect of growth promoters on live weight gain of steers grazing signal grass Brachiaria decumbens. The experiment was conducted on a beef Farm located in the southern portion of the State of Minas Gerais. The trial went from June/2003 to November/2004 (adding 533 days). The experimental design used was a complete block with a factorial scheme of three by three (three treatments and three genetic groups)and five replicates. The live weight gain results were not significantly different due to treatments compared with the control. In this way it is suggested that other experiments are undertaken to elucidate this matter at once.
