RESUMO

The dissertation addresses the situation of the micro and small business in the state of Pernambuco and the exportation process. Based on large bibliographical review dealing with the importance of the foreign commerce in the current days, the necessity of these companies to participate on that process, also addresses the history of Brazil and the state of Pernambuco in the international trade, the representation of the micro and small business in the world-wide context, as also the difficulty to appraise them. It still presents the participation of the Brazilian and pernambucanas micro and small business in the international trade. The dissertation comprehends a survey of the twenty nine micro and small business in the state of Pernambuco who had consecutively exported in the years of 2001 the 2003, representing 85% of the consecutive exporting total of this kind of business in these years, in order to successfully know the profile of these businesses in the exportations. Profile identified as business with less than 10 years, formed for entrepreneurs of higher professional qualification. They use the maritime transport to export, the destination is almost uniquely to the United States of America, and the exported products are in its majority of the primary sector of the economy, among others. The objective of the dissertation besides diagnosing this profile is to identify the major difficulties found in the exportation process and what strategies are used to surpass these difficulties. The work finishes recommending some actions, as much on the part of the companies as for the government for a higher development of the exporting culture between the micro and small business, mainly in the state of Pernambuco
