RESUMO

The postural evaluation methodology is widely used in physiotherapy to understand the alignment of body segments and to guide the therapeutic approach. Body alignment is meant to maintain the body balanced, or else to project the centre of gravity onto the base of support, hence managing the gravity force. The objective of this study was the evaluation of postural alignment, postural control and their correlation in young healthy adults, between 19 and 45 years of age. After a statistical clustering and similarity analysis, the initially 122 evaluated individuals were reduced to 115, of which 74.8% female with average age of 25,96 ± 6,90 years. The procedure included answering an anamnesis protocol, the placement of markers on specific anatomic points, taking front, back, right and left side pictures, evaluation of the postural control through the behaviour of the centre of pressure on a force plate and the measurement of the base of support. The pictures were analysed with help of the postural analysis software (SAPO), developed in collaboration with this study. Data were analysed using descriptive, correlative and factorial statistics. Quantitative values were identified for the postural analysis variables for the head, upper limbs, lower limbs and trunk segments, as well as the right-left inclination frequencies. For the head, as an example, 87.9% of the sample presented inclination, of which 67% to the right. The shoulder and the pelvis also presented a more frequent inclination to the right in 67,8% and 42,6% of the population respectively. The lower limbs presented an average alignment of 178º and the trunk presented a right inclination in 66,1% of the cases. No correlation between postural control and postural alignment was identified. Data suggest that there is a similarity pattern for the postural alignment, but it cannot be said that postural symmetry represents such pattern.
