RESUMO

Changes that occur at increasing velocity, and the volume of information available, demand a new posture from the participants of any educational process, specially from the schools. Education turned to know-how imposes a new way of working up the teaching-learning process. Mainly with focus on learning. Adjusting to these new rules, and facing the challenges that will arise each time more frequently, will be part of the day-to-day activities of directors, teachers, and students. Our work presents a new way of curriculum organization, the enrollment by discipline - MPD - based on the experience of a medium grade Technical School, were this system has been presenting very satisfactory results, providing flexibility and rapid reformulation of contents in response to any changes, and fulfilling the needs and expectations of the students. We tried to build a scenario that in our view portrays the society we live in, with its postmodernist characteristics, in which education as a whole is inserted, with the change of paradigms, the new reality of the labor market, and the necessity of acquiring abilities and competencies. We also did a brief analysis of the changes in the educational legislation in Brazil, and its implications mainly for the Medium Grade and Professional Education, as well as a historic study of professional education in Brazil. Finally, we described the MPD system, emphasizing the role of the school as a mediator of the teaching-learning process.
