RESUMO

Public cultural policies, cultural consumption, politics of gentrification and studies of audiences are the themes that make this work, having as an empirical reference for the study two public cultural events, the projects "Pôr-do-som‖ and "Teatro ao pôr-do-sol‖ which occur in the cultural equipment Estação das Docas, located in Belém, state of Pará . For the analysis we investigated the policies of culture that resulted in the creation of the cultural equipment, the conceptions that guided its creation, such as the discussion generated in the media at the time of its creation. For the study of public were conducted interviews that sought to understand more detailed and qualitative practices in the appropriation of space and events, as well as the images and meanings generated in the practices of cultural consumption. It is concluded that the equipment Estação das Docas was the result of a policies of gentrification, but the practice of appropriation of space does not have a uniform way, the discourse of the public, although reverberated many images created by the press and government propaganda, show a mosaic of different and superimposed images, showing that even the spaces that are born on the segregated concepts, can become places of multiple and heterogeneous significance, conflictive and appropriation.
