RESUMO

This text deals with cultural policy, arts and heritage management and funding. It focuses the Brazilian experience, comparing it with the First World one's, so far it's possible based upon the available bibliography. Although focusing ongoing trends, selected aspects of the history of cultural policy in the USA, Britain and France since World War II are inserted to frame current controversies on the relationship between government and the arts in the global and neoliberal environment. Issues like cultural policimakers training, corporate arts sponsorship, fiscal incentives, cultural diplomacy, trends in arts audience behavior, localization versus centralization, events "spectacularization" and the foundations' role are discussed, as part of the current agenda both inside and outside academia in the aforementioned countries.
