RESUMO

The purpose of this work was to investigate the movement of actions for the public security area that involves community participation and the relation of these actions with the development of the regions. Taking into account that the process of the regions development end up bringing issues related to violence, it is necessary a new look into the traditional models of public security, often distant from the population. The idea of community involvement in government actions aimed at the security area is not new, nor has its first milestone in Brazil. Many other countries have already implemented actions in security with a community nature, taking actions that favor the information and the sharing of experiences between police and population. This new model of public security, which implies in adopting a new paradigm in this area of the government action, plays a fundamental role in the process of developing regions, especially inland, where the strategies aiming to increase public safety must consider the regional characteristics and the profile of the local population. And the previous identification of these points in order to favor certain government actions in the area of public security is made easier if we imagine the citizen not as a mere spectator of government actions, but rather as an active and co-responsible participant to build a safer and more conducive to the implementation of new projects of development. Another positive factor of this interaction between government and community can be identified through the several prevention programs that end up emerging from this partnership, with the purpose of educating and guiding people about the social problems which generate violence. In fact, this model of integration between police and population demonstrates that, also in security, prevention is the best medicine
