RESUMO

This research investigates the role and the political-institutional strategies played by the stakeholders of green rural tourism* (Lage &Milone, 2001) of the town of Moreno, in the state of Pernambuco, in order to implement it. This proposition associates the analysis of a public policy with its management (Frey, 1997), by means of the formulation of a casestudy seen through sustainable development (Buarque, 1999, 1995), with the objective of collaborating with the encouragement of green rural tourism as one of the promising products to be explored in the studied town of Moreno, aiming at the conquest of innovating routes in its implementation, and of strategies for a local sustainable development. The analyses which support this research are illustrated by reports of interviews taken with the stakeholders responsible for and /or involved in the implementation of this kind of tourism, associating them with document analysis, participating observation, besides data taken from meetings, workshops, technical visits and informal debates. The research seeks to offer to the main managers of the green rural tourism how to learn in a better way the elements which need greater attention in the formulation of policies to define and execute such an important activity, counting on the ample participation and satisfaction of those interested in the social and economical wellbeing of the town Moreno. Besides, the research demonstrates that it is possible to make green rural tourism feasible in Moreno by means of reuniting elements that favour its adoption and sustainability as regards the studied reality
