RESUMO

This study shows the phenological behavior of two Leguminosae tree species of Atlantic Forest, in two areas with great physiognomic differences, in Teresopolis City, Rio de Janeiro State (UA1 Forest area in Serra dos Órgãos National Park and UA2 Urban area of Teresopolis) in a year period (from January/2005 to January/2006). The results are discussed focusing the activity and intensity of phenological events and the relation of these events with different climatic factors. Phenological observations, in marked individuals, were made monthly and the events: leaf fall, leaf flushing, flowering (bud flowers and anthesis) and fruiting (unripe fruits and ripe fruits) were quantified by the Fourniers method, where the intensity of the phenological events were estimated to each individual, using a scale from 0 to 4 with 25% intervals among each class. The annual rhythm of phenological events were characterized by leaf fall in a less wet period (August-September), leaf flushing in a hotter period and in the beginning of the wet period (October-December), flowering in the hottest and wet period (January-April), and the maturation of the fruits in the colder and less wet period (July-September). Differences were observed in the phenological behavior of the species in the two areas of study, suggesting that the physiognomic local characteristics maybe are influencing the duration and intensity of some phenological events, mainly flowering.
