RESUMO

The use of natural products has been growing remarkably in recent years. The search pharmacology of medicinal plants has not only brought about important advances for the treatment of various diseases, but also has provided extremely useful tools for the theoretical study of physiology and pharmacology. Aspidosperma pyrifolium Mart. occurs in the caatinga and is known as âpereiroâ, âpau-de-caoruâ and âpequià da mata. In Brazil, this species is used in cases of emphysema, bronchitis and pneumonia, and in the treatment of dyspnea asthmatic and heart. The survey assessed the proposed activity toxicological, and microbiological antineoplastic as well as the phytochemical profile of methanol extract of the bark of Aspidosperma pyrifolium Mart. The toxicity was evaluated in two steps: preliminary and final, the method of Karber and Behrens (1964). Treatment with the extract methanol, with the dose in mice by intraperitoneal females presented index of inhibition of 73.90% for the dose of 7mg/kg, 61.54% for the dose of 14mg/kg, to 28.57% 28mg/kg. The methotrexate, was able to inhibit tumor growth of 48.64%. The results of toxicity demonstrated by the intraperitoneal route the following effects: agitation, stereotyped movements, circulating and vibrissae, reaction of escape, irritability, exophthalmos, tremors, abdominal constriction. In the microbiological testing the arithmetic mean of halos of inhibition were 8.67, 12.00 and 14.33 for S. aureus (ATCC 6538), 9.00, 12.67 and 15.33 for BIOCLÃNICO and 13.67, 17.67 and 21.00 for M. luteus (ATCC 9341) in their concentrations. The results confirmed the ability of inhibition of bacterial growth in vitro by the extract of A. pyrifolium, corroborating the reports popular. In the phytochemical approach has been detected the presence of triterpenes, steroids, iridoids, saponoisides, reducing sugars, flavonoids and get a negative cardiac glycosides. It follows that the Aspidosperma pyrifolium Mart. despite the high toxicity presents antitumor and antimicrobial properties with prospects for new biological research
