RESUMO

Objective: Transversal study of analytical character aiming at the correlation of data referring to physical conditioning, antropometric and socioeconomic profile of women resident in the low-income area named Varjão, which is a satellite-city of Brasilia, Brazil. Methods used: The analyzed data referred to 80 women (ages between 18 and 45-average 32 years old) randomly selected. There were individual measurements referring to the following variables: body mass index (BMI), percentage of body fat and maximum oxygen volume test (VO max), at the same time there were questions the answers to which would have to be filled out in a form with socioeconomic, health and physical activity data. Results attained: The prevalence of overweight and obesity reached 57,5%. A low level of physical conditioning was found in 56,3% of the universe surveyed. Data taken from the form that was filled out revealed bad housing conditions, low family income, low school level, not proper feeding practices, and insufficient physical activity. Conclusion: The prevalence of overweight and obesity reached 57,5% and of low physical conditioning reached 56,3%. A meaningful correlation between overweight, obesity and low physical conditioning could not be found. There was a meaningful deficit in the field of education, health and basic assistance.
