RESUMO

This is an exploratory and descriptive study of quantitative and qualitative nature that shows the perception of the health group towards the organizational management of a hospital unit, based on the theoretical framework of perception and management. This enables research on group phenomena in an organizational environment through explanations and scientific methods that allow capturing the perception of subjects towards a particular object in a time and place. It aimed to examine the perception of the health group towards the senior management of a hospital organization, to help overcome the difficulties by means of adopting participatory management practices and contribute more opportunities for the participation of workers. The fieldwork was performed in a hospital unity of a city in the interior of Bahia, using as an instrument a script for a structured interview, consisting of two parts: identification data which refer to sociodemographic variables and open questions on the perception of management. As research subjects, we had 24 members of the health group of a hospital organization in a city in the interior of the state of Bahia. For the analysis of the results, the absolute and relative frequency of thematic units and content analysis were used, considering the concept of theme, consisting of subject, object and predicate. As a result of the perception of the health group towards management, five categories and twenty-eight subcategories were identified, which, according to the beliefs and prospects of the respondents, were in order of importance the requirements for management, following the ontological size, in the sequence and concept of management, the intervening factors in management and finally the valorization of management. It is worth noting that a model of autocratic management prevails in this organization, with focus on centralized management and absolute power by senior management. The requirements necessary to support this management prevail over the space and interaction that is shared with the management model, showing a reduction in serving this demand. In the ontological dimension exists the belief that the security and identification with the management can be established through training and participation. Among the intervening factors, the limiting factors stand out, especially human resources. Finally, the valorization of existing management expresses a belief in the possibility to change this reality and the transformation of the currently applied management model.
