RESUMO

The asiatic termite, Coptotermes gestroi is considered pest in urban areas causing expressive damages in houses, buildings and Trees. This research evaluated the pathogenicity of Paecilomyces farinosus URM4993 and Paecilomyces farinosus URM4995 to workers of C. gestroi. The insects were pulverized with concentrations of 104 at 108conidia/mL. They were kept in BOD at 25ÂC and 80% relative humidity, and then it was determined the Lethal Concentration (LC50) and Lethal Time (LT50). It was evaluated the conidia production in dead insects. It was analyzed the biological aspects refereed to germination, sporulation, radial growing and microstructures, before and after infection with C. gestroi. The fungus was pathogenic to termite and it caused mortality in all used concentrations, being P. farinosus URM4993 was more virulent causing mortality of 100%, after 6Â day of inoculation (LC50 of 4,86 x 105 conidia/mL and LT50 of 2,26 days). The sporulation in dead insects did not differ from strains. The percentage of germination was bigger in reisolated strains. P. farinosus URM4993 showed bigger sporulation than P. farinosus URM4995. The mycelia growing of P. farinosus URM4995 was bigger than its reisolated, after 9Â analyze day. Morphological differences were not observed in strains after being transmitted through the host. This results demonstrated the pathogenicity and virulence of tested strains, being P. farinosus URM4993 the most efficient, indicating their biocontrol potential to C. gestroi
