RESUMO

This work has as its central theme the presentation and analysis of the presidential palace, temple and big house, official residence of the President. Designed by Oscar Niemeyer in 1956, was one of the first buildings constructed of a definitive character in the federal capital. Even as a pre-construction design of the master plan by Lúcio Costa, the work is intertwined with the history of the city, which was the main theme for variations later. Already fifty year and despite being widely disseminated and appreciated, this work still lacks a broader perspective, especially with regard to their history and documentation. Thus, this study first presents the background relevant to the design of the palace, and they were internal and external to the work of Oscar Niemeyer. Secondly, it aims to present the architectural history of the monument, from the early risks until the present day. Finally, we intend to analyze the design of the palace, in the light of their history and literary criticism relevant.
