Páginas da vida, a família brasileira sob a ótica da recepção da telenovela

RESUMO

This research aims to analyze the viewers appropriations of Páginas da Vida soap opera about the family configurations built by the soap opera, linking them with family stories and configurations experienced by the viewers within their day life routine. From the theoretical matrixes of reception studies, I adopt as privileged reference the contributions of Martín-Barbero and Stuart Hall. I develop theoretical perspectives towards family, reception and gender, placing the family configurations contextualized in a scenario of a globalized society, in transition and with several kinds of tensioning. I contextualize the production and reception being included the technical and material conditions which makes the sense structure possible. From the empirical point of view, I analyze the sense production about the Páginas da Vida soap opera by two Brazilian families resident in São Luis MA and two Brazilian families resident in Portugal. I addopt a qualitative research methodology for the development of a reception study, the focal group and the reception research. In the analysis and interpretation of empirical data about sense production of researched family units, I highlight two subcategories: the sense productions about the soap opera family configuration; and the identification and non-identification of characters and fiction families versus family units. Amongst the outcomes, I underline three: (1) The evidence of specific sense processes about the family reconfiguration being built social and historically by the soap opera gender; (2) The assurance that the sense productions start from social concrete situations which directly affect the subject and his family experiences; (3) The perception about the researched families difficult to assimilate other family configurations beyond nuclear/fatherhood family represented in the soap opera, in spite of the contemporaneous family have a number of identities and configurations
