RESUMO

Several Indian populations occupied, per centurie, North Forest of Alagoas States and South of Pernambuco State. The first information concerning these populations appears with the publication of the columnistsâ texts and religious persons of the Brazilian colonial period. Later documents of the imperial and republican Brazilian State described the existence of the last Indian villages in that area destined to the Indian remainders that still insisted on preserving some of their cultural traces in the area. The first archeological information regarding the area of our research appeared in the decade of 1930, with the description of sambaquis structures in the proximities of the ponds in the North coast of Alagoas States, happening field activities later accomplished in the decade of 1980 in these places. In 1998 activities of archeological rescue were developed in the area among the municipal district of Pilar - AL and Cabo de Santo Agostinho - PE, due to the activities accomplished in the Projeto GASALP, resulting in an outline of archeological data on that area and something lifted the hypothesis on the positioning of the prehistoric archeological ranches as an intentional choice of the group or groups that occupied the area. In this way, they were identified 53 occurrences of archeological tracks with the predominance of prehistoric tracks (ceramic) inserted at ranches to open sky and positioned in the top areas and slopes of the Coastal Boards. Preliminarie analyzes indicate that the specifies choice for these places in the Boards was conditioned by geomorfological elements of the area and for cultural traces of the Indian groups that occupied the coast of the Northeast of Brazil. Preliminary observations about the general characteristics of the geomorphology and the area of registration of the several archeological occurrences added to the data ethnographics raised us the elaboration of some hypotheses to configure the choice of the area for the establishment: 1 - there was on the part of the groups preference for the structural unit specifies; 2 - and, the peculiarity of the establishments can take them to be considered as villages of groups farming ceramists.
