RESUMO

This work tried to improve the performance of a mimimun tillage machine prototype (MPM). Different tine rake angles and the working depths of frontal tines were evaluated. It was also . a goal to determine the differences between the performance of the machine prototype and the conventional systen. which used one pass of a disk plough two passes of a light disk harrow. The experimental resul ts showed that the prototype machine efficiently cuts crop residues and weeds for alI tines used. It is also possible to work with shallow tines ahead of the chisels with no important loss in its performance. considering the soil disturbance. Because it does not excessively revolve the soil. a signifficant amount of residues were left on the surface and the infestation of weeds was satisfactorily controlled. The prototype machine satisfactorily controlled weeds as a result of less soil motion and larger amount of residues left on the surface. 67 As far as the soil disturbance J.sconcerned. a less desagregation was obtained with the minimum tillage as compared to the conventionanl one
