RESUMO

The optimization of transponder frequency plans in satellite communication networks is extremely useful to achieve na efficient use of the geoestacionary orbit and frequency spectrum resources. Due to the recent development of satellite communication systems, the number of geostationary satellites is rapidly increasing. Thes makes the satellite angular spacing smaller and the cochannel interference among satellite systems employing the same frequency band has became a factor which seriously affect the system design and operation. It is highly needed the development of techniques to reduce this intersystem interfernce so as to accommodate as many satellites as possible in the geostationary orbit while keeping the interference levels within the criteria estabilished by international organisms. The rearrangement of frequency plans is considered an efficient tecnique in pratical situations. In this way, it is highly required the development of systematic methods and cprresponding pratical algorthmis for the optimization of frequency pllans in an efficient and automatic manner. The basic idea of this method is to make an rearrangement of the frequency plans so that the largest cochannel interference is minimized, considering all the carriers of the satellite systems involved. In this regard, two different models to make the rearrangement of the frequency plans were examined. The so called two dimensional model optimizes the carrier frequency assignment of a predetermined plan, considering that the carrier frequency assignments of the other plans are kept fixed. The so called three dimensional model optimzes the carrier frequecy assignments of two plans simultaneously, considering that the frequency assignments of the other plans are kept fixed. The results indicate a better performance of the three dimensional model which generated lower levels of interference when compared with the two dimensional model.
