RESUMO

This research project had as its objective to listen to, build in a dialogic way and analyze the oral narratives of the life history of workers, students and housewives who had their careers marred by a strike held in the city of Osasco in 1968, during the military regime. The event promoted by them had been brief because of the repression, but its meaning exceeded the physical time and prolonged itself in the senses of time and memory. With democratization in the 1980s, after the long silence caused by the authoritarian regime, groundwater memories emerged. Since 1987, I have accompanied the performance of this colony, deeply marked by losses and traumas, and also by political and social projections that are still outlined in the future horizon. It could be observed in this area of identity, constantly fed by the group, an effort to break negative stereotypes and fight an oversight forced by the authoritarian regime. The consensus in the male dialogues showed the construction of the collective oral memory of workers, students and workers who were involved in the strikes and other movements subsequent to the fight of repression. The accounts also revealed constant negotiations, licenses, silence and boundaries between them. The perceived silence seen in the accounts was not just that related to that sponsored by the authoritarian regime, but also with respect to the near invisibility of women in the oral memory of men. In this sense, I tried to understand how gender relations are expressed in the formation of the collective memory on the 1968 strike in Osasco. Using the assumptions of oral history testimony, I tried to give attention to the forms of memory, the different meanings and the trauma that remained due to the consequences of the labor movement as experienced by each group as defined by their gender. In particular, through the narratives, I wanted to give visibility to women\ s history marked by the play of gender in the process of resistance to the dictatorship alongside men.
