RESUMO

One of the main challenges in the work environment nowadays is to find alternatives that conciliate the interests of organizations and the professional and personal aspirations of workers. In this scenario, professional orientation programmes as well as career management present themselves as possible paths to follow to overcome these challenges. The present research had as its aim to investigate the impact of a career orientation programme of a financial institution. To achieve such objective three studies happened with the following objectives: 1) to validate the scales of the construct of Instrumental Value of Management of Career created from the scales of instrumental value training created by Lacerda (2002); 2) to build and validate the instrument of evaluation of impact in depth and amplitude in the Management Career Workshop in the professional and personal lives of participants from the instrument called Impact of Training created by Abbad (1999); 3) to investigate the relationship that exists between instrumental value and impact of course on the personal and professional career of the person who came out of the course. In this research the concept of instrumental value of training was worked on only two of its dimensions namely valence (importance) and instrumentality (utility). The sample was composed of 729 respondents. The data collection was made from February to April 2007. To make such studies, procedures of descriptive and inferential statistics procedures were used such as: descriptive and exploratory analysis of the data collected, internal consistency analysis, factorial analysis using the main components method (PC) and the method of factorization of main axes (PAF), and multiple standard regression analysis. The results obtained indicate the validity and the trust of the instrument Instrumental Value of the Career Management in the scale of valence (eigenvalue = 17,92, variance= 52,70% e α = 0,97) as well as in the scale of instrumentality (eigenvalue = 17,44, valence = 51,29 % e α = 0,97) besides it shows the validity of the instrument Impact in the Career Management, which presented eigenvalue = 24,85, variance = 62,11% e α = 0,98. The results of study tree indicate the predict power of the tested model and that the component variables of Instrumental Value of Management CareerImportance and Utility, two dimensions tested are aforementions of impact in personal and professional lives of the worker with an R2 = 0,56.
