RESUMO

The research had as a main goal to evaluate the consequences of the Orientation and Psycho Pedagogical Service (SOAPPe) on the professional reorientation and better adaptation to the course followed by the graduation students. The methodology adopted was the case study, developed in two stages, in a private university of the Distrito Federal. . In the first stage information were collected from the data sheet fulfilled by the students who looked for the attendance of the Service, in the years between 2001 and 2004. The information referred to the social and economic profile of the students, of their parents and the activities undertaken by both. In the second stage, a questionnaire was applied to a sample of students who concluded the Professional Orientation Program, in order to obtain information about the changes in their personal relationship, academic life and the quality of the attendance of the Service. Analyzing the data it came out that the students choose the graduation courses undertaken without sufficient information on the characteristics of the course and even less on the possibilities the conclusion of the course offers in the labor market. The study appoints to the importance to identify the causes of the lack of satisfaction of the students and the necessity to provide a larger amount of information on the different careers offered by the university, prior to their entrance in the institution, in order to avoid studentâs dropout
