Onde morar e onde trabalhar : espaço e deslocamentos pendulares na região metropolitana de São Paulo

RESUMO

This study has aimed at analysing the commutings in the metropolitan area of São Paulo - RMSP - as an indication of inequalities and of social and spacial heteregoneity in the area. The commutings are herein definied as daily joumeys made by the population of RMSP between the municipality of work and the one of domicile. The main sources of data used in this study were the 1987 and the 1997 researches of Origin-Destination done by the Metro Company of São Paulo. The theme has been approached in different spacial units - sub-areas, municipalities and districts - in order to trace a general evolutive panorama of the sociodemographic context of RMSp, to analyse the types of commutings established among the municipalities of RMSP and their transformations and to present the sociodemographic characteristics of the commuters. In the analysed periods, the greatest concentration of commutings in the RMSP was towards the city of São Paulo. Between 1987 and 1997, the maintenance of flows directed to the central metropolitan area and the reduction of flows directed to other cities were accompained by was an increase of commutings among the municipalities. This increase occured both in intra and inter-regional dinamics.The trend of increasing intra-regional flows discloses the importance of the configuration and consolidation of local sub-centres in some areas of RMSP. Therefore, an intense diversification of the places of origin and destination in the flows and of the social groups envolved is highlighted
