On the fundamental group of type II1 factors

RESUMO

We present here a shorter version of the proof of our earlier work, showing that the von Neumann factor associated with the group \documentclass[12pt]{minimal} \usepackage{amsmath} \usepackage{wasysym} \usepackage{amsfonts} \usepackage{amssymb} \usepackage{amsbsy} \usepackage{mathrsfs} \setlength{\oddsidemargin}{-69pt} \begin{document} \begin{equation*}{\mathbb{Z}}^{2}SL(2,{\mathbb{Z}})\end{equation*}\end{document} has trivial fundamental group.
