Ocorrência de ventos fortes no estado do Paraná : gênese e impactos

The knowledge of climatic conditions is essential to socioeconomic activities, especially for agricultural and urban planning. Thus has the objective of this work to present a study of winds in the state of Paraná, which was established by calculating and analyzing daily, monthly and yearly mean wind speed, relative frequency, distribution of the accumulated relative frequency, statistic distribution of the extreme values and wind gusts for monthly and yearly periods, for 16 first class weather stations from the network of Instituto Agronômico do Paraná (IAPAR), in the period 1976 to 2009. With the results of mean wind speed it was possible to characterize the yearly daily means and to suggest control practices such as the use of windbreaks, and to identify places with potential to produce wind energy. We identified the municipalities of Londrina, Ibiporã, Cascavel, Clevelândia and Ponta Grossa, as the most vulnerable to the occurrence of strong winds. For these municipalities, confirmed the spring as the season of highest incidence. By calculating the standard deviation, were considered extreme values found for each location. Later, with the rhythmic application of analysis, we analyzed four extreme episodes found in the spring of 1989, 1992, 1997 and 2009, where it was possible to observe a rhythm, where at least the two days preceding the storms, the weather was dry and high temperatures, a consequence of the actions of the masses Tropical Atlantic, Equatorial Continental and Tropical Continental, then with the arrival of a frontal system, change has occurred and the weather forecast occurrence of extreme wind, precipitation, and further decrease of temperature. Moreover, some instances of strong winds originate from convective cells.
