RESUMO

The presence of Microcystis aeruginosa has become of great interest in ecological/sanitary due to the fact that this species is capable of blooming and presents toxic lineage. The formation of blooms is generally considered as a sign of eutrophia of the body of water. This can be observed in the Salto Grande Reservoir since it receives an intense contribution of sewage emissionsITomneighboringtowns. The study conducted in this reservoir had as the objective: limnologic characterization of two points in the rainy season and the analysis of the ITequencyof the occurrence of the various populations of Microcystis. For this purpose, biweek1ysampling was done at two points of the reservoir on the water surface, between October 1996 and March 1997. The c1imaticvariables obtained were: precipitation, air temperature and direction of winds. The physical and chemical variables analyzed were: water temperature, transparency, conductivity, pH, dissolved oxygen, suspended solids and nutrients. The biological variables studied were: ch1orophyll-aand the ITequencyof the occurrence of the various populations of Microcystis. According to the results obtained, in the period studied, the predominance of the formation of the Microcystis blooms in the proximity of the Azul and Namorados beaches was noted, this must be related to the directions of the winds during this period. ...Note: The complete abstract is available with the full electronic digital thesis or dissertations
