RESUMO

In the present work, High Resolution Electrocardiography (HR-ECG) signals are obtained, processed and then ventricular late potentials which result from the late depolarization of the ventricule are analysed. Late potentials are generally present at the end of ventricular depolarization, presenting small amplitude and high frequency components when compared to ventricular depolarization signals. Therefore, it is not possible to observe those signals using conventional instrumentation due to ventricular activation and noise (from muscle contraction, electrodes and instrumentation). So, it is necessary to use methods which permit to improve signal-to-noise ratio of the ECG and to verify the existence of the late potentials. The signal averaging method is used to obtain high resolution ECG. In order to detect and analyse the late potentials two signal processing techniques were implemented: 1) the Short Time Fourier Transform; and 2) the Wigner Distribution. These techniques allow the analysis in both time and frequency domains simultaneously and they have been used to try to detect late potentials. Normal patients as well as patients at risk of developing ventricular arrythmias shall be tested using the methods implemented in order to validate them
