O universo do boi da ilha: um olhar sobre o bumba-meu-boi em SÃo LuÃs do MaranhÃo

RESUMO

This work has as a study theme the practice of Bumba-meu-boi in the city of SÃo LuÃs; in MaranhÃo. Bumba-meu-boi as a product of human creativity; in other words; as a symbolic product; expressed through its rhythms; myths; dances; songs; colours and styles; ethos and vision of a world. In this manner; inserted in the dynamic scenery of the social and cultural relationships present in Maranhense society; where more and more often exchanges; contacts and changes are established between the local and global; again elaborated; again given significance through a âdynamic of adaptation"; in other words; inclusion and exclusion of elements thus guaranteeing its continuity. In the current context of the city of SÃo LuÃs it has become a "consumer product"; made available to the diverse social segments and has thus become known as a larger element of the traditions; or better still; a symbol of Maranhense tradition; and therefore elevated to the position of element of cultural identity for the aforementioned state. In this position; it receives greater projection; popularisation; and even revitalisation; also creating possibilities for the aggregation of other meanings
