RESUMO

Our thesis proposes to make evident the reason why religion has been articulated nowadays as a modern magnificent communicational phenomenon. We have noticed that, inserted in the society of spectacle, the religious practices have been more magnificent day by day, since they have been influenced by media to amend themselves according to the rules of spectacle itself along with the entertainment industry. We have looked for to understand the strengthening of the religious field nowadays, through an identity redefinition regarding function and space of religion, within the Brazilian religious field, specially within the neopentecostalism that has become complex and challenging to the analysis task. Concepts such as rationality and world disappointment have been used in our research to anchor the reflection about the secularization process that, instead of producing âthe sacred declineâ has produced the born of new ways of religiosity that make evident the weakness of the conceptions produced in modernity regarding the religious phenomenon in media. This phenomenon analysis is made with basis on the spectacular religiosity present in the â Grace of God International Churchâ according to the reference offered by the sociologists of religion, standing out Weberâs concepts as well as Guy Debordâs criticism approach concerning the society of spectacle. We affirm the thesis that this new process of neopentecostal religious activity organization make the religious speech a well packed merchandise which is offered throughout the spectacles in television. This thesis defends that what seems to occur is that the importance of the spreading speech becomes irrelevant when it is experimented everyday, because the charming of this speech easy to be consumed exists mainly, while it shows a spectacular element, but, since it is away from the extraordinary spotlights , it is actually clouded by the ordinary reality. This disappointment must be made up for a new charming. Therefore the everlasting of the spectacle is the changing itself. The exhaustive creation of new products, religious speeches and entertainment, at last, merchandise must give place to merchandise
