RESUMO

The River Basin Committees are organizations created to assist the national policy concerning water resources and join representatives of the civil society and public institutions. For the last ten years, the public health system of the State of São Paulo has taken part in the decision forums, with the right to vote. The study tries to show the technical profile of the representatives of the health sector and its participation diagnose related to such committees. It also reveals the territorial topographic composition that characterizes the naturallimits of the river basins and the administrative division of the public health sector reflecting difficulties concerning water resources management under the public health point of view. This study concludes that the necessity to determine institutional strategies to better represent the health sector regionally on the River Basin Committees and to invest on the qualification ofhuman resources from the field of Public Health, with the main objective of improving technical response in such committees
