RESUMO

Amongst the natural resources, the water plays the function of maintenance of the life in the Earth planet. The water availability is small if compared with the total volume of water in the planet. The man, throughout its history, has used this resource in multiple forms: supplying, agricultural and industrial production, transport, leisure, generation of energy, etc. The increase of the population and the technician-industrial activities demands each time more use of water, which currently presents losses in the amount and quality. Based on this reality, the present research try to analyze the strategic dimensions that involve the multiple uses of the water, being based on the concept of sustainable development that conciliates economic growth and conservation of the natural resources. The politics of management of the water in Brazil consecrates the decentralization and popular participation so the objective of the sustainability is reached. For it, there are the necessity of awareness of the users that the objective will only be reached if there is a change of attitude in relation to the use and appropriation of this resource. Thus, to promote the participation of some involved segments with the use of the water of specific water basin requires actions that make possible to place the community as co-responsible for the management. In this intention, this study indicates the program of Ambient Education as a form to sensitize, to mobilize and to support the society in favor of the use of the water resources with sights to the sustainability. This research has as study area the Basin of the Lago Descoberto for being the biggest source of water supply of the population of the Distrito Federal, but currently it presents environmental problems in result of the intense and diversified occupation of the soil. In the attempt to search solutions for the problems of the area, the research emphasizes the importance of the lines of action determined by the Política Nacional de Educação Ambiental, in the promotion of the effective participation of the community in the management of the water resources to reach the sustainable use of the water of the Basin.
