O mito da fragilidade : o olhar mÃdico sobre o corpo da mulher e seus desdobramentos psÃquicos

RESUMO

It has been shown that modern medicine, especially specific branches regarding the physical and mental health of the woman, as well as her offspring, such as Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics and Psychiatry, has been contributing to the construction of the womanâs identity in our contemporary society and, consequently, her subjective unfolding which, in many ways, results in psychological sufferings. In this way, the critical contribution to such medical perspective, on the part of gender studies and psychology studies which aim at guaranteeing womenâs individual autonomy and empowerment, is presented as part of a new perspective upon the woman, which understands and considers the woman beyond her biological body. This qualitative and phenomenological research aims at reconstituting the history of how the current medical approach to the feminine body was developed in order to bring to discussion the ideological myths and interests that support it, as well as point towards the suffering that it brings
