RESUMO

This dissertation is a study of imagery in fairy tales, especially tales: Cinderella, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, and Beauty and the Beast. The reasoning is based on the theory of the imagination. First, the thesis discusses the origin of the stories and their importance in the social environment for all human beings. It then presents the theory of imagery, image and imagination, and their respective evolutions throughout history. Based on these theories, the stories will be analyzed and the imaginary is shown by the comparative method. Secondly, the study is directed to the symbol of the word or image as aspects of the unconscious in a comprehensive way. In the third stage of labor, the stories are also analyzed through the comparative method in relation to the metaphors. Shows that metaphors are rhetorical resources to strengthen the sense of an image generated by a word. Images metaphorically translate various meanings.
