RESUMO

Thirty seven ehildren with isolated diaphyseal femoral ftacture, with age ranging from 2 to 12.6 years (average 6.6 years), were treated eonservatively by immediate spica east or traction followed by cast and were followed for 24 months. This work has shown that the overgrowth was identified along the first and second year, with growth of the ftacture site being higher than the non-fracture one. After 24 months the measurement of overgrowing was 1.34 em average (clinical) and 1.28 average (scanograph); children bellow 8 years old showed signifieant1y higher growth than those above 8 years of age. There has been signifieant1y difference between the uptake of the distal growth plate ofthe fractured and the non-fractured femur along eaeh measured time intervalo
