RESUMO

Drugs have always existed and they will hardly disappear. In each historical period new substances were used. Crack cocaine appears as the contemporary drug. It presents some similarities with other drugs regarding to risk, protection factors and the strategies of treatment, but at the same time, it s different from the others because of the speed the dependence is installed and because of the consequences in all the sectors of the user s life, being more dangerous in the case of children and adolescents. This research, which has the confrontation of the multi-professional teams from the mental health services in Cascavel to the treatment of the crack cocaine dependency on children and adolescents as its object, derives from a social research of quality approach. It presents the facing strategies of the mental health teams of Cascavel-PR against the crack cocaine dependence in children and adolescents, showing some particularities in the work with this age group and this drug. It characterizes the teams that work with this public and the work done, showing some challenges they go through and possibilities in the face of this challenges, as well as the importance of the interdisciplinarity and the intersetoriality. It identifies, above all, that the activity of the teams working in the mental health system is not focused in the drug, but in the person and in its situation when he arrives in the services. The treatment, therefore, to crack cocaine users and backsliders in general, is not different from other psychoactive substances. But, at the same time, there are peculiarities on the treatment of these users, as the need of easy access to the service, hospitalization for further detoxification, and other strategies. In the case of children and adolescents, it was identified the necessity of the use of a compatible communication with this age group, the involvement of family and friends in the treatment, specially in the case of adolescents, and other strategies that will be showed throughout this research. The results of this work may contribute to the formulation of specific strategies and policies to the service of chemical dependent children and adolescents, and to the treatment of crack cocaine users.
