RESUMO

The corpus of this work consists of two short stories, Desenredo and Reminisção, which are part of the book TUTAMÉIA, 1967, by João Guimarães Rosa. The analysis of the two chapters that compose the dissertation focuses on the theme of Love, from the point of view of the classical tragedy and the tragedy as a possibility that remains latent in the course of the human experience. Our objective is to explain the treatment the author gives to the theme, concerning the tragic element, which marks the love relationship of the protagonists, in different ways, in each one of the analysed narratives . The title of the short story, Desenredo, announces an action that aborts the plot, which is constructed on the possibility of a clichéd tragedy; however, the writing procedure that inverts the relation of causality, procedure that reminds us of a parody, reveals another plot that may be hiding the threat of a tragedy. Aborting the accomplishment of a clichéd tragedy, animated by the erotic love, the character may be constructing a modern tragedy. Reminisção presents the problem of a relation of different times: the time of the narrative and a past time that directs the protagonists action. The narrators ironic discourse announces a tragic situation, experienced by the protagonist, ironically suggesting, on the other hand, a process of ascesis, spontaneously experienced by the character. The adopted methodology for the analysis of the corpus was characterized by the method of discovery , constructed by the narrators ability of telling and showing, by what is told and what is hidden ( not told), by text and absence of text: critical poetic dialogic construction. The preface and the posface interact as an introduction and a conclusion that complete each other , without closing the work nevertheless; a kind of circular movement of discovery , not of completion
