RESUMO

This study is concerned with logistics and transportation. Business logistics comprises ali the activities involved in moving products and related information. Transportation is one of the most visible elements of logistics in the movement of products from a source location to a final destination. This research work was based on the "Delphi" method, a technique used here to forecast the levei of logistic service required in the international motor carriers roadway transportation of general cargos between Rio Grande do Sul and Argentina. The core point of this research was a customer service approach in the logistic operations, besed on the relationship between the participants of marketing chanel in the transportation environment. After the construction of a theorical frame based on bibliographical references, two different kinds of research were pursued. The first one was exploratory and investigated the current levei of logistic service and the other was prospective, based on the "Dephi" qualitative method of forecasting. The firts part of the research was carried out with 50 professionals of transportation and foreign trade, who were in charge of companies linked to transportation activities, such as shipers, consignees, carriers, sales middlemen, forwarders and advisors. They were asked to answer a questionnaire on the exploratory part of the research. A reply index of 84% was obtained in the latter, amounting to 42 professionals, who became the objects of this research. In the next step, 12 professionals werw selected amomg the participants of exploratory study, and invited to participate of the rounds in the propective research. Only eight participants remained at the second and the third final rounds. In both parts of the study, the research data were collected through personal interviews. The findings of the study were analysed, as well as commented, in the conclusions. These findings, specially the ones which originated from the "Delphi" method, were self-evident, expressing in themselves their own conclusions. Therefore, ten recommendations considered pertaining were added to the final part of this report.
