RESUMO

In this study, we analyze the reconfiguration of the Mozambicans identities in the Mia Couto and Paulina Chizianes novels, in the context of the transformations that had place in Mozambique in the last decades. We try to understand how these workmanships, produced between 1990 and 2006, represent the society and are responsible for the construction of meanings, and establish determined image for the collective cultural identity. From intersections among the studies of Homi Bhabha, Stuart Hall and Katthryn Woodward, the processes of construction of the cultural identities, analyzed as force relations are considered, where the signs differentiators of Self can be submerged in the speech of the nation, but always possible to emerge at any time, indicating that the homogeneous speech is truncated by heterogeneous histories of groups in dispute. The resource of the novel as source for a historical study begins in the understanding that the literature, more than fiction, its also a representation of the lived time and, like the historiographys studies, promotes an order and a configuration of the secular experience of the men. The theoretical foundation of these considerations, searched in Ricoeur, establishes similarities among the procedures of the novelist and the historian, as representation of the action, and as the intrigues composition. These are the mechanisms through which both search to reach, with its narratives, the understanding and the likelihood. Paul Veyne reaffirms that the historical knowledge has in the understanding its main axle and that, therefore, the operation of the historian implies construction of texture and establishment of the route, what it makes of the history only one true narrative. About the treatment of the texts, we adopted the procedure suggested by Richard Johnson, exploring the thematic problems and, the subjective or cultural configurations that such texts are explicating. From the analysis of these thematic ones and the relations with other academic texts, journalistic and governments speeches, promoting an interpretation of the configurations constructed for the two studied authors. The reflection on the dialogue established in the novels with contemporaries events, particularly the crisis of the socialism, the civil war and the recovery of the tradition while configuration of societys expression, leads to the directions that each author attributes to its intrigue.
