RESUMO
According to the symbolic map of the nation, the Colombian Caribe or La Costa was marked, historically, as barbarian, salvage and primitive territory. Manuela by Eugênio Diaz Castro, La vorágine by José Eustasio Rivera and 4 años a bordo de mi mismo by Eduardo Zalamea Borda helped to construct and sustain the territorial hierarchy when they updated that symbolic map, as it was said by Alfonso Múnera. On other hand, at the end of 1950s, the costeños writers started to fight against the negative vision which was given to La Costa. El hostigante verano de los dioses and Los pañamanes by Fanny Buitrago, Cien años de soledad, La increíble y triste historia de la cândida Eréndira y de su abuela desalmada and El otoño del patriarca by Gabriel García Márquez, La tejedora de coronas by Germán Espinosa and Changó el gran putas by Manuel Zapata Olivella are important ubres to produce an alternative representation far away from the concept of barbarian. This thesis will examine these representations as important part to the costeño cultural discourse, which disputes and relocates La Costa in the National Colombian map.
