RESUMO

The main objective of this study is to analyze the situation of music education in the face of recent changes in national legislation in relation to educational inclusion of people with disabilities trying to place the music educator in this context. To answer the questions posed it was carried out a survey of publications on music education, special education and inclusive education in order to build a reflection on the history of special education in Brazil. It was then possible to clarify and better understand the origin of the teachers doubt and uncertainty attitudes who is faced with the reality of special and inclusive education. In a second phase of the research I present some reflections on my experience on personal and professional training. I search through a questionnaire to identify the main ideas and difficulties faced by music educators before the inclusion of people with special needs in schools paradigm. Finally, from the experience of teaching music in a specialized institution for people with visual impairments, I try to systematize possibilities and strategies of action for the music teacher at this public and demystify some of the stereotypes and prejudices toward people with special educational needs and, more specifically, those with visual impairments.
