RESUMO

From the thirties s on, the radio in São Paulo seeked to stablish itself as na important point ofreference in the cultural life of the city. Abandoned a kind of unpersonal "upperclass" style, a characteristic of its first years, broadcasting tried, little by little, to reach wider strata of the population, redefining its role, conceming education and culture. As the numbers of stations increased, subsequently, reception enlarged, so, there was a meaninfull diversification in their programs. The analyses of the humoristic and countru music programs, which have been considered much more than a simple lever to raise audience, made it possible to open some new discussions even about the transformation of the city into a metropolis, center of entertainment and dwelling for foreigners and migrants in general, no matter how diverse they were
