RESUMO

This thesis charts out and analyzes the dissertations on social movements presented from 1970 to 1994, at the State University of Campinas and at the University of São Paulo. Special attention was given to those studies that dealt with the following movements: workers movements, popular movements, new social movements, messianic or religious movements, student movements, political movements and economic ones. The main objectives of this study are: to provide and divulge information on the social movements during this period and to contribute towards the theory and methodology of this theme. The manuals, catalogues and informatic arquives of the above mentioned Universities were researched inorder to chart out these dissertations. The research and the analysis followed an information itinerary: general data for cataloguing ( Title of the thesis , author s name , guide s name , data and place of presenting the thesis, number of pages ); methods and techniques used; information on the researcher s participation in the movements that were studied and the original theory used as a guide for the study
