RESUMO

A study of the bat species present in Ponta Grossa, in the area of Campos Gerais in Paraná state was made with the objectives of learning their basic ecologic aspects (diet, reproduction, time of activity, taxocenosis structure) and comparing them to the species present in the different phytoecologic areas of this state. Collections were carried out in four forest fragments, involving 272 working hours on 48 m2 of nets and roosting sites. 247 individuals of eight species, Artibeus lituratus, Sturnira lilium, Desmodus rotundus (Phyllostomidae); Tadarida brasiliensis, Eumops auripendulus (Molossidae); Eptesicus brasiliensis, Myotis nigricans and Histiotus velatus (Vespertilionidae), were registered. In the field, Phyllostomidae was the most commonly captured family (80.16%); in roosting sites it was Molossidae (82.85%). Solanaceae, Moraceae, Piperaceae and Rosaceae were part of the diet of the frugivores; six orders and one class of insects were found in the diet of the insectivores. There was a balance between the number of female and male individuals collected and the peak of the collection was reached in the second hour and a half. Pregnant females were found in the months of September and October; lactating ones in November and December. Few species are found due to deforestation in the area and the scarce vegetation, in addition to the cold weather. The number of registered species is probably close to its limit in this region, making it necessary to preserve the forested areas, because these are important for the survival of the chiropterofauna.
