RESUMO

This work presents, in an exploratory form, the use of infrared emissions of the TIG arc as a parameter for process monitoring, detection and localization of defects or discontinuity during welding. A infrared sensor was used for focalizing part of the arc and weld pool and transformed the intensity of infrared radiation presented in the surrounding regions of the focal point in a current signal between 4 and 20 mA. Qualitative analyses were carried out to evaluate the information obtained during various experiments, describing the advantages obtained through the infrared monitoring of the both arc-pool. The signal behavior and its fluctuations helped to understand the information collected by the sensor. Once the information given by the sensor was understood, the capability of the sensor to detect perturbations through the triggering of defects in welding was evaluated. The objective of this methodology was to observe the capability of detecting alterations in the arc-pool region. Through the infrared emissions, the use of the signal for detection of defects in welding was showed feasible. Various techniques for the estimation of parameters and change detection on infrared signal were evaluated for the detection of the induced defects during the welding. It was possible to adjust the algorithms of detection expecting on-line monitoring and control. Finally, an on-line algorithm was simulated that uses the Kalman filter for the estimation of parameters and detection of alterations through Cumulative Sum (CUSUM), showing the viability for the implementation in reconfigurable architectures.
