RESUMO

This work presents the manufacturing process of tinp1ate modified by interposition of a nickel thin lager between the stee1, and tin. The conventiona1 product was characterized by anodic dissolution, X-rays diffraction and Auger spectroscopy in order to investigate the tinplate composition ond structure. The corrosion resistance of tinplate was investigate by cathodic polarizations in citric solutions, pH3. Volumetric measures were done to obtain reproducible nickel coatings of 10-100 mg/m² and tin coatings of 0,3-0,8 g/m². Potentials, currents and efficiences of deposition pocesses were identified. Samp1es of tinplate nickel-preplated were prepared showing that 20-40 mg/m² of nickel inhibited the growth of FeSn2 alloy layer and showed an optimization of the free tin after flow melting. The cathodic polarizations showed that 10-40 mg/m² of nickel had a very favourable effect on the corrosion resistance
